Terms of Service
Last updated 23 July 2026
The short version.WellWishes lets couples collect cash gifts from their wedding guests. Payments are processed by Stripe and go straight into an account in the couple's name; we never hold the money and gifts belong to the couple from the moment they are given. Starting a registry costs $40 (plus a $2 processing fee) and each gift carries a 3% platform fee plus card processing costs, with the full breakdown always shown before anyone pays. Guests can cancel a gift themselves within 24 hours. This summary does not replace the full terms below.
1.Who we are and your agreement
WellWishes is a digital wedding gift registry operated by WellWishes Limited (NZ company number 9434049, NZBN 9429053715852) from wellwishes.co.nz. When these terms say "we", "us" or "WellWishes", they mean WellWishes Limited. You can reach us any time at hello@wellwishes.co.nz.
By creating a registry, sending a gift or otherwise using WellWishes, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2.What WellWishes is (and is not)
- WellWishes lets couples build an online registry page and lets their wedding guests send cash gifts toward the things the couple has listed.
- We are a software service, not a bank, money remitter or financial adviser. We never hold your gift money.
- All payments are processed by Stripe, a global payment provider. Gifts travel from the guest's card through Stripe directly into a Stripe account held in the couple's name, and from there to the couple's bank account.
- A gift is a payment from a guest to a couple, and it belongs to the couple from the moment it is given (subject only to the 24-hour cancellation window in section 6). WellWishes is not a party to that gift; we provide the page and the payment plumbing.
- Any dispute about a gift is a matter between the guest and the couple, not us.
3.Your account
By creating an account you agree that:
- You are at least 18 years old.
- The information you give us is accurate, and you will use the service only for a genuine wedding or celebration registry of your own.
- You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure. You sign in with a one-time email link, so anyone with access to your email can access your WellWishes account.
4.Fees
- Starting a registry: a one-off $40 NZD setup fee, paid when you create your registry, plus a $2 card processing fee at that checkout ($42 total). Publishing your registry is free.
- On each gift: a WellWishes platform fee of 3% of the gift amount, plus card processing costs. Processing costs are set by Stripe, not by WellWishes, and may change or vary with how a guest pays (for example, cards issued overseas attract higher processing costs than New Zealand cards). The processing amount shown at checkout is a good-faith estimate of that cost for a standard New Zealand card at Stripe's then-current rates.
- Who covers the gift fees is the couple's choice per registry: guests can top up at checkout (the default, so the couple receives the round amount they set), the couple can absorb the fees, the two sides can split them 50/50 or the couple can let each guest choose.
- Whatever the setting, every guest sees the exact breakdown of gift, platform fee and processing fee before confirming payment. There are no hidden charges.
- WellWishes Limited is not GST-registered, so no GST is added to our fees. Stripe's card processing fees include GST charged by Stripe itself, and that is already included in the processing fee shown at checkout.
- We may change our fees in the future. Changes never apply retroactively to gifts or setup fees already paid, and we will give reasonable notice of any change.
5.Payments, identity checks and payouts
- To receive gifts, the couple must complete Stripe's onboarding, which includes identity verification that payment regulations require (proving who you are before you can receive money).
- Payouts to your bank account are made by Stripe automatically. Each gift becomes available for payout 7 days after it is given and is then paid out on the next payout run. We hold this short buffer because guests have a 24-hour cancellation window and banks can reverse card payments; keeping gifts briefly in your Stripe balance means a cancellation or reversal can be settled from the gift itself rather than becoming a debt you owe.
- Stripe's own terms (the Stripe Services Agreement and Stripe Connected Account Agreement) apply to your Stripe account alongside these terms.
- If Stripe suspends or restricts your account (for example because verification is incomplete), we cannot override that.
6.Gifts, refunds and chargebacks
- Guests can cancel a gift themselves for 24 hours. Every receipt email contains a one-tap refund link that works for a day after the gift is sent, no questions asked.
- A self-service refund returns the gift amount. Processing fees are not refundable, and this is stated to the guest before they pay and on the refund page.
- After the 24-hour window a gift is locked in. If something genuinely needs unwinding (a duplicate charge, a payment made twice), email hello@wellwishes.co.nz and we will sort it out with you directly.
- If a guest disputes a charge with their bank (a chargeback), Stripe's dispute process applies. Because gift money belongs to the couple, the gift amount of a disputed charge is recovered from the couple's Stripe balance when the dispute is opened, and if the balance does not cover it, from gifts received afterwards. If the dispute is resolved in the couple's favour the gift amount is returned to them in full. Couples agree to cooperate with any dispute process.
7.Your content
- The photos, names, stories and text you put on your registry stay yours. You give us permission to host, display and back them up so the service can work, and that permission ends when your content is deleted.
- You agree that you have the right to upload what you upload (for example, that a photographer's photos are yours to use).
- You agree you will not upload content that is unlawful, infringing, deceptive or harmful. We may remove content or close a registry that breaks this rule, and no fees are refunded when we do.
8.Fair use
By using WellWishes you agree that you will not:
- Use it to collect money under false pretences, launder money or run raffles or commercial fundraising.
- Use it to collect money for anything illegal, or for any activity on Stripe's list of restricted and prohibited businesses (which our payment provider requires of everyone on the platform).
- Harvest guest details, or probe, overload or disrupt the service.
Your registry must honestly represent the occasion and the purposes you are collecting gifts for. Once a gift has been given it belongs to the couple absolutely: gifts are not held on trust for any particular purchase, and no guest has any claim over how a gift is spent, whatever the description on the registry. This does not excuse dishonesty: creating a registry, or describing a gift, in a way intended to mislead guests is a breach of these terms. We may suspend or close accounts involved in fraud or abuse without refunding any fees, and where the law requires it we may report activity to authorities.
If we face claims or costs because you broke these terms or the law, you agree to cover the reasonable losses that your breach caused us.
9.Closing your registry and deleting your data
- You can close your registry whenever you like. After closing, you have 7 days to change your mind and reopen it. After that the closure is permanent.
- About 30 days after closing, we email you a full keepsake summary of your registry (every gift, message and total) and then permanently delete the registry's data from our systems.
- You can delete your whole account at any time from your settings. Payment records remain with Stripe as required by financial regulations.
10.Our commitments and the limits of our responsibility
- We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 that cannot be excluded by contract; the limits below apply only to the maximum extent the law allows.
- WellWishes acts solely as a facilitator. We are not a trustee, escrow agent or financial intermediary, and we are not a party to any gift between a guest and a couple.
- We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
- If we are liable to you for anything connected with these terms or the service, our total liability is capped at the total fees you have paid to WellWishes in the 12 months before the event you are claiming about. If that total is less than NZ$40, the cap is NZ$40 instead, so the cap is never zero.
- You agree we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for the acts of guests or couples, or for Stripe's decisions about accounts, payouts or disputes.
11.Ending or changing the service
- We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms.
- If we ever discontinue WellWishes, we will give registered couples reasonable notice and a way to receive gifts already given and export their registry information first.
- We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you by email or by a notice on the site before it takes effect. Using the service after a change takes effect means the updated terms apply.
12.Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction. If there is a dispute, talk to us first at hello@wellwishes.co.nz; almost everything can be fixed by email.
